Mr. Green's Music Room

Choo Choo Ch' Boogie Concert
The entire Malabon student body (grades K-5) performed their
"Choo Choo Ch' Boogie Concert"
on December 14 in Powers Auditorium
at Willamette High School. Nearly 300 voices gathered under the spotlights
and sang a powerful performance with a variety of wonderful songs.

S.O.S.S.O.S.
The S.O.S. (Stamp of Success) program rewards students for their submissions to Malabon's publications and museum. Students in grades 2-5 receive a stamp for each significant submission. After accumulating ten stamps, the student can pick a prize from the D.O.G. (Drawer of Goodies).
S.O.S. Rewards
We are seeking donations of stuffed animals and collectibles to use for prizes. They are quite popular with the students (as you can imagine!). Simply put them into a container and deliver them to Mr. Green in the music room.
Thank you for considering this excellent and educational method of recycling your unused items.

The Gong

Malabon Elementary School is committed to providing your child with a musical education of the highest caliber. Each student comes to music class two or three times a week for one-half hour (15 minutes for Kinders).

Each music class begins by listening to quality recorded music. Classical, jazz, and traditional styles are enjoyed, and historical tidbits are thrown in for good measure!

"Show & Tell" features students that choose to perform for the class. Anything goes, and songs, piano, guitar, harmonica, drums, whistling ... you name it ... appear on a regular basis to showcase the students' talents.

The Music Curriculum: Five Critical Skill Sets

Our year begins with the singing segment. We learn proper vocal technique and sing only excellent musical literature, concluding with a public concert.

We then move into the notation segment where students learn to read and write basic treble clef notes and rhythms.

The keyboard segment follows. Students are taught how to read a simple tunes written on paper and play them on their chromatic keyboards

The percussion segment focuses on the reading of rhythms ranging from quarter to sixteenths. We utilize drum pads and sticks and rehearse similarly to a marching band drum line.

The year concludes with the guitar segment. Students learn the most useful basic guitar chords and how to read and strum chords as they sing along.
